Many of the brides that I work with want fresh creative ideas that have a lot of meaning. I created the rock ceremony below to help these brides out. If you like the idea, I invite you to take it and make it your own. I’d love to see any variations that you create. Please post theme here.
Water is a very powerful symbol. The Taoists consider it an aspect of wisdom. The ancient Greeks observed it change from ice to liquid to vapor and thought it represented life’s transitions. For Christians it’s the original substance from which all things were made. Science tells us that we are essentially made of water. The bowl that I hold before you today contains water. Think of it as life giving water.
Stones often symbolize stability, firmness and integrity. Let these stones represent the two of you – the character of your relationship.
As I drop these stones into the bowl – As the water of life surrounds the symbol of your relationship – I will offer a blessing on your relationship. I Invite all of you family and friends to do the same thing silently.
Marriage Blessing by Robert Fulghum: (As I read this blessing I drop the stones into the water)
May the sun of many days and years shine upon you;
May the love that you have for one another grow and hold you close;
May the good, true light within you guide your way on together;
May your dreams come true, and when they don’t, may new ones arise.
And long, long, years from now, may you look at one another and be able to say,
“Because of you, I have lived the life I always wanted to live – because of you I have become the person I longed to be.”
God bless, God bless, God bless.
